Fancy visiting one of our archaeological excavations? Come on down to Fishergate for our site Open Day – right in the city centre of York! You’ll have the chance to speak to our archaeologists about what we’ve been finding, and see some of our artefacts too, for a full behind the scene experience.
There is a maximum of 20 people per time slot but don’t worry we have sessions running all week from the 30th of October free of charge.
We will have a talk and Q&A on the archaeology of the site which consists of features from the Roman to modern periods. This includes evidence for Anglian and Anglo-Scandinavian craft industry, medieval features relating to the complex/grounds of the Gilbertine Priory of St Andrew and the 20th century Rialto cinema. There will also be an opportunity to handle some of the finds from the excavation so far.
